B. einer Ware)«, vorwiegend in Zusammensetzungen wie »Standardmodell, Standardwert« u. a.: Das als Terminus der Kaufmannssprache seit dem 19. Jh. allgemein übliche Fremdwort ist aus gleichbed. engl. standard entlehnt. Die eigentliche Bedeutung des engl. Wortes ist »Standarte, Fahne« (danach dann die Übertragung etwa im Sinne von »Festgelegtes, Vorgeschriebenes«), im Engl. bezeichnet es auch den ‹gesetzlich› festgelegten Münzfuß. Es geht auf afrz. estandart (= frz. étendard) »Standarte, Flagge« zurück (vgl. ↑ Standarte). – Abl.: standardisieren »(nach einem Muster) vereinheitlichen, normen« (20. Jh.; nach entsprechend engl. to standardize).
